About the available Versions

This repository maintains several versions of Oolite:

Test Releases

These releases are for general use. They are considered 'test' releases since future versions may not have full backwards compatibility. Nevertheless, these releases are to be preferred over the last 'stable' release in the official Ubuntu repository (1.65) as they include a huge amount of improvements, features, and bug-fixes over the older versions as well as being compatible with all the latest OXPs.

Maintenance Snapshot Releases

These are Work-in-Progress versions of maintenance work done on the latest 'Test Release', and mostly of interest to testers or OXP coders.

Trunk Snapshot Releases

Cutting edge, latest builds, often unstable and may contain temporary features which disappear tomorrow. Only of interest to a select few. You have been warned!

APT-Sources lines

Add these apt-source lines to your system configuration:

Ubuntu 10.04 'Lucid Lynx'

IMPORTANT NOTE:
A serious bug has been discovered in the GNUstep libraries shipped with Lucid Lynx. As Oolite depends heavily on these and has been affected by this bug, binaries are temporarily unavailable for Oolite for Lucid Lynx until this has been resolved.

If you use these apt-line for Lucid it is highly recommended to also install a fixed version of GNUstep for Lucid from the gnustep-fixed PPA. If you don't, be aware that you may encounter problems, such as inability to load save-games or OXPs.

The generic autopackage version of Oolite is safe for use, as it is shipped with an older version of GNUstep. You can download it from the standard Oolite downloads page here.
